Little-known travel fact: on a flight to San Francisco, those people frantically refreshing their iPhones prior to takeoff aren’t compulsive or crazy (that’s just me). They’re doing that because they’ll be without data not until they land, but until they’re home and on WiFi. Be nice to us: we don’t see networks this fast very often.

… but that was [yesterday] →
An incredible entry in (and eventual winner of) the casual gameplay design competition at jayisgames. It’s got a strong spirit, like Braid or Limbo, and though the graphics aren’t as polished as every day the same dream, it’s still a fantastic game. (Make sure you make it past the dog in the snow: the pace picks up after that, and things start to make more sense.)

23andMe
(This all started because my mom (I know, right?) poked fun of me on Facebook (I know, right?) for getting a 23andMe test.) I’m rather surprised more people haven’t talked about their thoughts about getting a 23andMe profile done: I find it to be an incredibly intriguing idea, and it raised questions that I’d never thought of before. First, though, read this Wired article about Sergey Brin and...

Au Revoir Simone - Only You Can Make You Happy... →
Might as well keep the Monday music rolling. This remix takes a gauzy, low-key, Beach House-esque Au Revoir Simone song and transforms into something worthy of some serious head-bopping. (I’ve only listened to it like a dozen times.)

I know it’s early on a Monday, but it’s always a good time for some Thomas Bangalter remixes. Enjoy the beats.

If you like Reeder on the iPad or iPhone, but dislike the Mac version, try this Google Reader extension. I much prefer it to any of the CSS styles provided by Google Reader Styles.

Why the technical "standing" issue properly... →
Slate’s Jurisprudence blog is one of my favorites. This article takes a close look at the current Proposition 8 appeal. Read to the end: the best paragraph by far is the closing one (quoted here in part): That this enormous result could follow because no one had “standing” to appeal Judge Walker’s decision would not be as “technical” as it may appear. … In the...

Jesse Stiles →
Jesse Stiles did the music for Every Day: I love Watson Songs. The Target Museum is featured in another game by Molleindustria, Inside A Dead Skyscraper.

I was playing One Chance earlier this evening, and it reminded me of the lovely Every Day The Same Dream. Similar mechanics and feel and art, but they both have their own unique style and gameplay outcome.

Julian Assange and the Computer Conspiracy; “To... →
Via Waxy, a discussion of and pullquotes from Julian Assange’s discussion of conspiracies (not in the paranoid or James Bondian SPECTRE sense, but in the “members of a group seeking to accomplish goals orthogonal or counterproductive to the group’s goals” sense). It’s a very novel way of thinking about regimes, information flow, and organization management strategies. (“Strategies” or “tactics”...
